Here are some tips to optimize Path of Exile for a smoother gameplay experience on your PlayStation 4.
PoE offers various options in-game to customize your experience. Lets take a look at the Options menu to see what you can turn off for less lag:
-
Item Filter: NS Strict 3,4,5 / Custom Filterblade
This allows you to optimize your loot by choosing a filter that only shows what you require and cut out any added effects or loot that clutters up and renders uselessly. Either select the default strict filters or make your own at the FilterBlade website. -
Hide Filtered Ground Items: Ticked
Its advisable to hide filtered ground items. THats why you chose a filter from the option mentioned above. -
Networking Mode: Lockstep or Auto
Auto, Hybrid or Lockstep are the 3 choices. THis take a few factors into account and depending on your connection speed, you may not be offered the choice of Lockstep. If you do see Lockstep, that is your selection and if not, Auto is the similar choice. -
Bloom: 25%
Bloom simulates a glowing effect on bright light sources. It can enhance visuals but can also be overwhelming in intense battles. You can adjust the bloom intensity or set it lowest 25%. -
Enable Quest Tracking: Untick
If you are a seasoned PoE player, you definitely do not need this blocking your upper right corner of the screen, especially when the map is filled with ranged monsters and you need to see every part of the map. -
Show Corner Map: Tick
If you want to be fully minimalistic, you can turn it off but it is a Quality of Life feature and doesnt affect performanceand. Its better to keep it on as it also has some indicators not found on the main screen map. YOu might sometimes notice a red glow on the edge of the map circle to direct you to nearby enemies and encounters. On a side note, if you are doing quests, it is much better to use the World Map or Waypoint to see incomplete quests and select them to see their route on the map to quickly get ther. -
Enable Quest Tracking: Untick
As with Quest Trcking, this blocks the upper right of the screen and definitely doesnt help your with your viewing ecperience of the map. -
Landscape Transparency: Slider Fully down left
This shows features of the landscape like rocky mountains and walls but it is fairly useless as you already see all this in the game itself. Turn it all the way down to the left and it wont obscure your view anymore. -
Map Transparency: Slider Fully Up Right
You want transparency so you can see through the map thats onscreen, so turn this all the way up to the right -
Map Zoom: Slider Fully down Left
YOu dont want to see just a portion of the map because you already see this in the game as is, so you would want this turned all the way down to zoom out, not in. Now you can see the entire map, or most of it, in and easily navigate and locate encounters that have icons in the fog. -
Always Show Sockets: Ticked
Since PlayStation users don't have a mouse to quickly hover over every item its better left on. In the trade market this feature makes every item hide the sockets which is very annoying to try and find them unles of course you know how to search for them ecpertly. -
Socket Notches: Your choice
Small Notches and Large Pattern options have distinct markings to signify color of the socket for color-blind users and Larger with more markings for visually-impaired users, but also, they look neater than the Default plain smooth notches. -
Show Full Descriptions: Untick / Your choice
This shows the full items description of item on the floor. It is possible that by generating these previews it may affect performance as you hover on items on the floor. I personally tunr these off and inspect the items in my inventory as my filter only shows the items i actually want to pickup. -
Support Gem Utility Popup: Ticked
This is useful and doesnt seem to affect performance so its better to have it on when testing out new support gems to see if oyour socketed skill can be suppported by them. -
Screen Shake: Untick
This shakes the screen when monsters slam the ground etc. It can be annnoying or even a cause of crashes. I personally turn this off, and havent crashed with it ot turned off. -
Camera Rotation Effects: Untick
This can be a disorienting effect and doesnt really assist in anything. It has been said that this effect causes crashes when entering new areas, like the Cathedral Rooftop in Act 10. If this is true, then it may very well relate to how the game renders elevated ransitions, as in climbing hills. This, together with screen shake option above, may even be the cause of crashes in maps like Untainted Paradise.
